What the data says

~68 weeks

Typical duration of the pivotal weight-outcome trials, which is short relative to a chronic condition.

Source: Registration trial protocols

The pivotal trials measured percentage change in body weight against placebo, alongside secondary metabolic endpoints. They were run with structured lifestyle support in both arms, which is rarely reproduced outside a trial.

Averages conceal variance. Within the same trial arm, some participants had large changes and a meaningful minority had little, and the published distributions show that clearly when you look past the headline mean.

Discontinuation data is the part least discussed. When the drug stops, much of the effect regresses over the following year, which reframes these as long-term treatments rather than a course.

This is prescription pharmacology with real side-effect profiles and contraindications. Nothing here is a recommendation; the decision belongs with a prescribing clinician who knows your history.
